The open-air short film festival (spelling: KurzFilmFestival ) Shorts At Moonlight was launched in 2003 and, with around 9,000 visitors, has developed into one of the largest German short film festivals .

The festival arose as a private initiative in 2003 out of the desire to free the short film in the Rhine-Main and Main-Taunus regions from its shadowy existence and to stage it appropriately. During the annual summer festival, over 100 short films, mostly from Germany, are shown in various castles and parks in the region. Due to the success and the audience response, the best films from the summer program will be repeated in the cinema in the winter edition. This event, which has been recurring since 2006, is hosted by the Cinestar Metropolis in Frankfurt am Main and the Cinestar in Mainz .

Every year, the Škoda Short Film Prize is awarded, with which the audience chooses their favorite film. In addition, the Main Taunus Prize is awarded as a specialist jury prize to films that deal creatively with the subject of "seeing-violence".

The festival is organized by the non-profit association Shorts At Moonlight Kurzfilmfestival eV This was founded in 2003 by Gudrun Winter and has set itself the task of helping the short film genre to attract more attention.
