Showmaster was a casting show in which new talented presenters were sought. The program was broadcast in 1992 in the main evening program on RTL plus . The program was moderated by Werner Schulze-Erdel . It was one of the first collaborations between RTL plus and the Dutch production company Endemol .

The candidates had to prove their talent in various games. For example, they had to moderate a message block off the cuff - the input for each message was simply a given word. In another game the singing talent of the candidates was tested. The ability of the candidates was assessed on the one hand by a prominent jury ( Rudi Carrell , Caterina Valente and others) and on the other by televoting .

The winners of each episode were awarded material prizes - the winner of the final program, Martin Wirsing , received his own TV show on RTL plus, which, however, did not go into series and now works as a presenter for Hessian radio.

The candidate Sandy Reed (stage name) could use "Showmaster" as a springboard for a record deal . Other participants were Knacki Deuser and Christoph Brüske , both of whom were subsequently able to establish themselves in the German comedy scene. The youngest participant Charlie Martin (19) achieved third place in his show and established himself in the variety scene, among others in the "Roncallis Apollo Varieté". Alexander Rüdiger , the only Austrian participant, made the jump to public television and moderated the lottery drawing for ORF and, since 2007, the program Money Maker , which is one of the most successful game shows on public television in terms of market share.
