Shriya Saran (born September 11, 1982 in Dehradun , Uttarakhand in India) is an Indian actress who makes films in Telugu , Malayalam , Tamil , Hindi and English .

One of her first roles was in the Hindi television series Amma and Family , where she played a daughter in a Muslim family. In 2001 she took on her first leading role in the Telugu film Ishtam . This was followed by several Telugu feature films, after which she also began to act in Hindi films and Tamil films . She was particularly successful with the films Tagore , Arjun , Sivaji , which in addition to the original version were also dubbed in several Indian languages.

In 2008 she made her first American film with Bei Call Liebe - The Other End Of The Line . In this romantic comedy she plays a young Indian employee who works in Mumbai for a telephone service for American customers. While her parents are planning her engagement, she develops romantic feelings for one of her clients and decides to fly to San Francisco on her own without the knowledge of her family and her fiancé to meet him.

In January 2008, Shriya Saran was reported to Tamil Nadu by the Hindu Makkal Katchi (HMK) for wearing indecent clothing. The occasion was her appearance at the Silver Jubilee celebrations for her film Sivaji: The Boss , where she wore a short-cut dress that, in the opinion of HMK, was an insult to Hindu culture. Similar allegations have been made by HMK against fellow actors Kushboo Sundar and Mallika Sherawat . Shriya Saran later published an apology addressed to Tamils and Hindus in which she described the dress she wore to the celebrations as a mistake and stressed that she had a great respect for the traditions and culture of Tamil Nadu.

On March 12, 2018, Saran married her Russian boyfriend Andrei Koscheev in a private ceremony in Mumbai.
