Shuuto

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Shuuto ( Japanese シ ュ ー ト , shūto from English shoot ) or shootball is a throwing technique used by a pitcher in baseball . Here the baseball is thrown at the speed of a fastball and, viewed from the thrower, with an outward twist .

The Shuuto is related to the Slider , which breaks out inwards instead of outwards, and similar to the Screwball , which also rotates outwards, but is slower. The throw is mainly used by Japanese pitchers such as Hiroki Kuroda , Masaji Hiramatsu or Yu Darvish .

The Shuuto is often mentioned in the movie Mr. Baseball starring Tom Selleck . Here Selleck plays a US baseball player who emigrates to Japan and has great difficulties with the Shuuto.
