Seagull Island
The Seagull Island , which is around 5000 square meters in size, is located in the Sibbersdorfer See . Gull eggs were collected here until the ban on sale in 1988. With the end of this use, the island became increasingly bushy because it was no longer mowed.
The bird protection group Eutin - Malente took over this care measure in 1995, and the number of breeding pairs increased again.
However, reed bunting and reed warbler have not been breeding birds there since the late 1990s.
In 2004, 1051 breeding pairs of 19 bird species were counted, of which 750 pairs of black-headed gulls (1996: 50 pairs), three pairs of black-headed gulls , 22 pairs of common terns , 15 pairs of Canada geese , one pair of oystercatchers , two pairs of lapwing , 12 pairs of gray geese , 49 Couples tufted ducks and a swan pair.
