Siberian is a Swedish sludge and post-metal band from Linköping that was founded in 2010 under the name Shrine .

history

The members had been working together musically in different constellations as children since 2006. In 2010 they founded the band Shrine, which after three years was able to sign a recording contract with Gaphals Records , but now called itself Siberian for legal reasons. In 2014 the debut album Modern Age Mausoleum was released , which forms the first part of the so-called Age trilogy. After the release it went on tour through Europe several times . Over the next two years, the band worked on their next album, which was released in 2017 through The Sign Records under the title Through Ages of Sleep . Then the band went on tour again.

style

Wolfgang Liu Kuhn from Rock Hard wrote in his review of Modern Age Mausoleum that one can not deny a commonality with Mastodon . He was mainly reminded of the albums Remission and Leviathan , although Siberian is much more straightforward. There are also similarities to Cult of Luna and Breakdowns in Converge style.

Three years later, Ronny Bittner reviewed Through Ages of Sleep , on which the band mixed post, sludge and black metal and thus sounded like a mix of mastodon, temple and mantar . The group worked elements from folk music and acoustic passages into the songs .

In an interview with Andreas Schiffmann, one issue later, the group stated that they were also influenced by traditional Slavic music for the second album . The members would be interested in folk and world music and would have also used instruments such as didgeridoo and djembe on this album .

Michael Klaas from Metal.de also reviewed Through Ages of Sleep and stated that the album is now much closer to post-metal or sludge than its predecessor. The singing can be both guttural and clear. The songwriting seems modular and often repeats itself.
