Sibyrtios

Sibyrtios (Greek: Σιβύρτιος) was a Macedonian general of Alexander the Great .

The "upper provinces" of the Alexander Empire.

During the Asian campaign he was 325 BC. In Karmanien used as satrap , as successor of Astaspes executed by Alexander . In the same year he was replaced by Tlepolemos in Carmania and in return received the provinces of Arachosia and Gedrosia after their satraps had died. In these provinces he was both of Perdiccas in Babylon in 323 BC. BC as well as by Antipater in Triparadeisos 320 BC. Confirmed.

In 317 BC Sibyrtios was a member of the satrap coalition of the upper provinces which opposed the expansion of the Peithon . He contributed 1,000 infantrymen and 610 cavalrymen to the army led by Peukestas . The following year he joined Eumenes von Kardia , but left his camp shortly before the battle of Gabiene . For this he received his provinces from the victor of the battle, Antigonos Monophthalmos , in Persepolis . To this end, he was given command of the department of "silver shields", which he was supposed to wipe up in battles against barbarians, as punishment for their previous betrayal of Eumenes.

Sibyrtios was still in possession of his provinces under the rule of Seleucus . He received around 303 BC The diplomat Megasthenes , who reported on his visit to the Indian great king Sandrakottos . Gedrosia and Arachosia were ceded to the Indian Maurya dynasty around this time .
