The surname Sidler was originally a job title for someone who makes chairs and seating. It is a derivation of Old High German sidila or Middle High German sidel (e) "Sitz, Stuhl , Bank", where the Swiss German Sidele "Stabelle" still comes from . The Sidler families in the cantons of Aargau (Dietwil), Lucerne (13 municipalities), Solothurn (Riedholz), Schwyz (Küssnacht am Rigi), Zug (3 municipalities) and Zurich (5 municipalities) are traditionally local, i.e. naturalized before 1800. as well as in the Baden-Württemberg districts of Ortenaukreis and Zollernalbkreis.
