Erich Sidler

Erich Sidler (born May 26, 1965 ) is a Swiss theater director and artistic director.

Training and professional positions

Erich Sidler initially studied art history at the University of Zurich , but switched to the University of Music and Theater in Zurich in 1992 and began studying directing, which he completed in 1996. He then went to the theater of the Lower Saxony State Theater in Hanover as an assistant director , where Ulrich Khuon, the director at the time, soon entrusted him with his first directing work. Work as a freelance director followed, u. a. at the National Theater Mannheim , the State Theater Stuttgart and the Schauspiel Essen .

In 2001, Friedrich Schirmer engaged him as in-house director for the Stuttgart State Theater . This was followed by productions and a. at the Landestheater Linz , at the Maxim Gorki Theater in Berlin, at the Theater Basel and at the Theater am Neumarkt in Zurich.

From 2007 to 2012 Erich Sidler directed the drama at the Stadttheater Bern . During this time he was able to establish a new venue for the drama and open up new audiences for the branch. Since 2012 he has been working as a freelance director again, a. a. at the Saarbrücken State Theater , the Deutsches Theater in Göttingen and the Heidelberg Theater.

In addition to some great classics, Sidler has mainly staged world premieres of contemporary drama. He was represented with several productions at the most important forums for contemporary drama ( Mülheimer Theatertage , Heidelberger Stückemarkt , Autorentheatertage at the Deutsches Theater, Berlin).

Since the 2014/2015 season, Erich Sidler has been the artistic director of the Deutsches Theater Göttingen .
