Sidney Desvigne
Sidney Desvigne (* 11. September 1895 in New Orleans , Louisiana ; † 2. December 1959 in California ) was an American jazz - trumpet of the New Orleans Jazz .
Sidney Desvigne played from 1917 in Storyville , New Orleans in a number of New Orleans jazz bands such as the Excelsior Brass Band , Leonard Bechet's Silver Bell Band , the Maple Leaf Orchestra and Ed Allen's Whispering Gold Band . Desvigne later played with Fate Marable on Mississippi river steamers. In 1926 he formed his own orchestra, which played at St. Bernard's Country Club and the SS Island Queen . Red Allen , Pops Foster and Al Morgan played in this formation . In the early 1930s, he tried with little success a Swing - Big Band in New Orleans rebuild. He left New Orleans in the 1950s and opened a club restaurant in Los Angeles .
