Sidney Myer Ehrman (also Sidney M. Ehrman , born August 23, 1873 in San Francisco , California , † April 26, 1975 ibid) was an American lawyer .

Life

Family and education

Sidney Myer Ehrman, a member of the Jewish denomination , the second youngest of four children of Myer Ehrman (1842-1925) and Fredericka Rider Ehrman (1849-1940), turned to studying law at the University of California at Berkeley after completing compulsory school . After a year of study at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , he obtained the academic degree of Bachelor of Laws in 1896 . He continued his studies at the University of California, Hastings College of the Law , in 1898 he received a second Bachelor of Laws degree.

Sidney Myer Ehrman, a staunch Republican supporter , married Florence Hellman (1882–1964) on June 30, 1904. This marriage came from the children Sidney Heller Ehrman (1905-1930) and Esther Hellman Ehrman Lazard (1906-1969). The passionate fisherman died in April 1975 at the old age of 101. He found his final resting place in the Home of Peace Cemetery in Colma .

Professional background

Ehrman practiced as a lawyer in the law firm of WS Goodfellow and Garrett W. McEnerney in San Francisco after graduating. In 1905 he became a partner in the law firm Heller, Powers & Ehrman, which in 1921 took on its current company name Heller, Ehrman, White & McAuliffe. Sidney Myer Ehrman distinguished himself as a lawyer, particularly in the areas of labor and tax law .

Ehrman also served as director of the San Francisco Opera Company, the San Francisco Musical Association and the San Francisco Jewish Community Center, and as a trustee of the University of California, Hastings Colleges of the Law, the San Francisco Law Library, the San Francisco War Memorial and Performing Arts Centers and the California Historical Society. He was an elected member of the California State Chambers of Commerce, the San Francisco Stock Exchange, the Lunch Club and the St. Francis Yacht Club.

In 1930 Sidney Myer Ehrman was elected to the board of directors (regent) of the University of California at Berkeley, in 1952 he resigned from this position. In 1953 the Sidney M. Ehrman Scholarships were launched on the occasion of his 80th birthday in recognition of his services to this university .
