Siechhaus (desert, Iphofen)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Siechhaus (also Kobel ) is a deserted area in the area of the city of Iphofen in the Lower Franconian district of Kitzingen .

Geographical location

The location of the desert can easily be identified from the archival information. The infirmary was about 1050 m southeast of the Iphöfer market square on the road to Markt Einersheim . The Sickersbach tributary Siechhausbach runs here and is led over a small bridge towards Einersheim. The name of the stream refers to the desert. Today the site is largely built over, but the Siechhaus corridor has been preserved.

history

The place name refers to the medical importance of the house. While siech means sick or leper in Middle High German , kobel can be translated as narrow, bad house. Originally, the Siechhaus meant a quarantine hospital outside the city walls. Citizens affected by leprosy were cared for here. Later one was here prebendaries -Home set for old citizens.

The infirmary was mentioned for the first time in 1460. In 1545, an “Order of the Kobels Oder Siechhaus der Stadt Iphoven” was named for the first time. It regulated the coexistence of sick people in a small space in 40 chapters. A Kobel master supervised the lepers, while an infirmary begged for natural produce in the city . There was a fruit and vegetable garden next to the actual infirmary, and the house also owned several vineyards in the direction of Rödelsee .

The order existed until 1626. The disease began to die out in the 17th century. In 1631 the last "Sundersieche" was recorded in the Iphöfer Siechhaus. After the death of the last inmate, the infirmary was converted into an inventory house. It later fell apart. In 1738, the corridor “beym Siechhaus” appeared for the first time in a tithe description . In 1857 it was called "near the rear infirmary".
