The Siegburger Rowing Club (SRV for short) is a rowing club from Siegburg near Bonn . The boathouse of the SRV, which is involved in competitive and popular sports , is located directly on the banks of the Sieg , a tributary of the Rhine .

history

Today's SRV was founded by twelve young men as a Siegburg swimming and rowing club . Rowing also took place on the Agger , a narrow tributary of the Sieg. It was not until 1920 that their own boathouse was built on a waterfront property acquired by the municipality in what is now the Deichhaus district of Siegburg, directly on the Sieg. Thus the rowing activities were permanently relocated to the larger tributary of the Rhine, where all trips of the SRV begin at the Siegwehr .

In 1922 the swimmers separated from the rowers of today's SRV and founded SV Hellas Siegburg . The WSV Siegtal from Seligenthal , formed in the same year, closed the resulting membership gap through a later merger. Even before 1939, the SRV successfully dedicated itself to racing rowing , but was only able to build on past successes slowly after the Second World War . After a generation change, however, there was renewed success in racing rowing from 1975.

Under the leadership of Achim Weiffen, the SRV started successfully at national and international championships and won numerous titles. In 1987 Erik Ring finally won the gold medal in the lightweight four-wheel without a helmsman at the World Championships in Copenhagen . In 1998 Valerie Viehoff succeeded in winning the gold medal in the lightweight double quad at the World Championships in Cologne . At the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000 Viehoff also won a silver medal. Most recently, Patrik Stöcker won the gold medal at the World Championships in Rotterdam in 2016 in a lightweight quadruple scull.

Even today, rowers of the SRV take part in competitive and popular sport regattas. With Holger Salewski, the SRV also has a rowing teacher who teaches rowing to non-club members at the Sieg.
