Seal of the Republic of Austria is the name laid down in the Wappengesetz for the seal used by organs of the Austrian federal administration .

The design of the seal is regulated in Section 2 of the Coat of Arms Act. Accordingly, the circular seal consists of the federal coat of arms , which is described in the upper semicircle by the inscription Republic of Austria .

Stamps with the coat of arms and the inscription are also considered seals. Under certain circumstances, a different design with the designation of the respective facility in the lower semicircle and the use of the abbreviated inscription Rep. Austria is permitted. Such stamps are called round seals or round stamps .

The right to use the seal and the stamp is in § 5 Wappengesetz in connection with § 4 Abs. 2 f. Regulated Coat of Arms Act. Accordingly, the following organs of the federal administration may use the seal in any case:

Furthermore, the governor as an organ of indirect federal administration (but not the subordinate offices, such as the district authorities ), the authorities, offices, institutions and other agencies of the federal government, the Austrian Federal Forests, has the right to lead in accordance with Section 4 (3) of the Coat of Arms Act as well as the armed forces ; likewise the universities and colleges including their institutes, the faculties, the departments and the special university facilities, insofar as they have at least limited legal personality, as well as the administrations of the state monopolies (unless they are set up as stock corporations ).

The Coat of Arms Act regulates that one copy of the sealing stick is kept by the Federal President and the Federal Chancellor .
