history

The Siegelshof was first mentioned in 1368 as "Segil", then in 1370 as "Sigilin" and in 1423 as "Segele". In 1419 the small settlement was still called a village. In 1423, five sixths of the Feldmark belonged to the Kaufungen monastery and one sixth to the Lords of Buttlar . From 1527 on, the farm was a foreworking of the Herleshausen manor and in 1678 came into the possession of the Hessian manor administration.

As early as 1679, the Siegelhof consisted of the house with two barns that still exists today. Ten acres of land, a little garden and two fish ponds belonged to the farm. In 1742 the property was expanded to include the stables. A fire destroyed a barn on the farm in 1913 and it was rebuilt. A sheep farm was operated on the farm until 1966 .

Since 1971 the residential building of the four-sided courtyard has served as the clubhouse of the Herleshäuser fishing club, which manages the two ponds of the courtyard. The evangelical parish of Herleshausen holds a service every year on Ascension Day at the Siegelhof.
