Victory Column in Hakenberg

The Hakenberg Victory Column is a 36 meter high monument in Hakenberg near Fehrbellin . It commemorates the victorious battle of Fehrbellin of Brandenburg Elector Friedrich Wilhelm against the Swedes on June 18, 1675 and stands on the hill where the Brandenburg gun emplacements were located during the battle.

The Victory Column goes back to an initiative of Crown Prince Friedrich Wilhelm (later Emperor Friedrich III ), who also laid the foundation stone on June 18, 1875. Government Councilor Spieker in Berlin provided the draft for the memorial, and the construction management was the responsibility of the Lancizolle district architect. The basement was made of gray sandstone, the tower was made of field fire bricks from Ketziner and Hennigsdorf brickworks and clinkered with yellow Silesian facing bricks. The construction costs amounted to 100,000 marks . The inauguration took place on the tenth day of Sedan , September 2, 1879.

The two-part base has the shape of a cube with four truncated edges. A round tower-like structure rests on it, which carries a circumferential gallery with a viewing platform at a height of 23 m. The gallery can be reached via 114 steps and consists of an iron latticework, in the middle of which is the 4.15 meter high, 15.5 ton (later gold-plated) bronze statue of the goddess of victory Victoria on a gray sandstone cone . It is a replica of the Victoria that Christian Daniel Rauch had created in 1843 for the Belle-Alliance-Platz in Berlin , cast in the Lauchhammer art and bell foundry .

On the outside of the basement there is an inscription plaque with the dedication, and above it an oversized niche with a colossal bust of Friedrich Wilhelm. The inscription plaque and the blind niche were made from reddish-brown Swedish granite, while the bust of the Elector was created in the sculptor's workshop of Albert Wolff based on a design by Andreas Schlueter in Carrara marble .
