Siegfried Käsebier

Siegfried Käsebier (born February 21, 1931 in Dessau ) is a former German basketball trainer , official and referee.

Life

Käsebier completed a teaching degree at the Martin Luther University in Halle-Wittenberg , where after boxing and volleyball, he also ran basketball. Shortly after the establishment of the basketball section, of which he was one of the first members, in 1952 he was in charge of youth teams at the HSG Wissenschaft Halle as a trainer, as well as the Halle men's team and, in 1957, the selection team of the National People's Army. Furthermore, he was part of the coaching staff of the GDR national team under Leo Huebner in 1960. In 1963 he and Kurt Lauterbach looked after the GDR national team, which was sixth at the European Championships in Poland . In 1978 Käsebier was awarded the “ Master of Sports ” award.

In addition to his work as a trainer, Käsebier trained as a referee and in June 1964 he directed his first of 365 international basketball games. Among other things , he was a referee at the elimination tournament for the 1972 Summer Olympics, as well as at the European Women's Championships in 1970 and 1978 and at European Cup games. In total, during his career as a referee, he played more than 1100 games. At the international level he was active as a referee until 1980, after which he was employed by the FIBA as a technical commissioner and referee observer. With Wolfgang Ockert and Oliver Krause , Käsebier discovered and promoted two referees who were later also used in international games.

After the end of the GDR, he joined the work of the Basketball Association of Saxony-Anhalt from 1990 to 1996 as a referee . Professionally, Käsebier worked as a sports teacher at the Thomas-Müntzer-Gymnasium in Halle until 1996.

He was awarded the gold pin of honor in 1996 by the Halle City Sports Association and in 2006 by the USV Halle . He was made an honorary member of the USV.
