Comprehensive school Bremen-Ost after renovation from 2002 to 2007

After completing his studies, Köhl had been running an architecture office in Bremen- Schwachhausen since the 1960s . He worked in changing partnerships with various architects. As a young architect, he tried to attract attention in Bremen through more visionary planning. The still undeveloped Teerhof on the Weser, in the immediate vicinity of the old town in Bremen, was the reason for the architects Dinné , Glade, Katenkamp, Köhl, Müller, Schmidt, Stelling, Sturmheit and Zickerow to develop urban planning for residential and commercial buildings with up to presented to ten storeys in a very compact design, which was publicly discussed controversially and not realized.

In 1967, Köhl and Karl-Heinz Stelling won the urban planning competition for the redesign of the Sögestraße pedestrian zone . Relatively low roofs should serve as weather protection. This award-winning design was not implemented either.

With the comprehensive school Bremen-Ost (GSO) in Bremen- Osterholz , he and his partners were able to implement a very extensive large-scale school system.

The ensemble of 22 flat-roofed, modern semi-detached houses in Bremen- Oberneuland , which were commissioned by the housing contractor Klaus Hübotter , attracted attention .

Köhl was buried in the Riensberg cemetery .
