Siegfried Kunstreich

Siegfried Kunstreich (born February 4, 1908 in Norderney ; † March 18, 1998 in Leer , Ostfriesland ) was a German artist and art teacher.

Life

Kunstreich was born in 1908 as the son of a teacher on Norderney. He spent his youth in Ochtersum near Esens. He attended the Marien-Gymnasium in Jever and became a student of Georg van der Vrings. In 1928, the year he graduated from high school, the first exhibition of his works took place in Oldenburg and the Oldenburg State Museum made purchases .

After graduating from high school, he studied art at the academies in Düsseldorf and Berlin from 1928 to 1932 . During his art studies his professors and trainers Erich Heckel were in Berlin and Heinrich Campendonk in Düsseldorf. After 1932, Kunstreich worked as an artist and teacher in several cities in Lower Saxony before he got a job as an art teacher at the Teletta-Groß-Gymnasium in Leer in 1938. During the time of National Socialism, his pictures hanging in the Oldenburg State Museum were removed from the museum as degenerate art . Between 1939 and 1945 he did military service, towards the end of the war in 1945 his studio in Leer was looted.

After 1945, Kunstreich taught at school again. His imagery was mainly shaped by the East Frisian landscape. His pictures remained attached to the representational. His fields of work were painting, graphics, illustration, typography, linoleum cutting, wall painting and ceramic painting.

Siegfried Kunstreich took part in exhibitions in Bonn, Hagen, Cuxhaven, Oldenburg, East Friesland and in the Netherlands.
