Siegfried Kuntsche

Siegfried Kuntsche (born February 18, 1935 in Görlitz ) is a German historian and archivist.

Career

Kuntsche grew up in the family of a couple of teachers in Schönau auf dem Eigen in Upper Lusatia. After graduating from the Geschwister-Scholl-Oberschule in Löbau in 1953, he studied history at the Humboldt University in Berlin until 1958 and then studied at the Institute for Archival Science (Potsdam) with degrees as a historian and archivist .

From 1959 to 1979 Kuntsche worked in the Schwerin State Archives , from 1976 as a department head with the main focus on indexing the records relating to the land reform in 1945/46 and the development of a special directory. 1970 Kuntsche's doctorate at the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Rostock with an investigation on the subject of the business transition from farm management to the new farming community in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

In 1980, Kuntsche was appointed director of agricultural history at the Institute for Agricultural History and Foreign Agriculture at the Academy of Agricultural Sciences of the GDR in Berlin and in 1983 he was appointed professor at the AdL. From 1986, Kuntsche was responsible for joint research with the AdL institutes on the history of the academy. In 1992 Kuntsche's employment relationship came to an end without notice, despite a positive assessment of the research work in the area by the Science Council of the federal government and the states. In 1992 he took over the management of job creation measures to consolidate the records from the activities of the AdL and to hand over the academy archive to the Federal Archives. From 1993 to 2017, Kuntsche was an appointed member of the Historical Commission on the board of the Democratic Socialist Party (PDS) and the Die Linke party.

Siegfried Kuntsche was a member of the Society for Political and Social History Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, from 2008 to its dissolution in 2013 as chairman. He published numerous articles and books on agricultural history.
