Siegfried Panhofer

Siegfried Panhofer (born January 4, 1942 in Saxen ; † February 13, 1998 ) was an Austrian newspaper editor and writer .

Life

Siegfried Panhofer was born on January 4, 1942, the youngest of five siblings (Hans, * 1932, Rudolf, * 1934, Anna, * 1936, and Karl, * 1940) in the small community of Saxen in the Mühlviertel . His parents were Johann Panhofer (1908–1952) and his wife Klara (née Hinterreiter, 1909–1988). After attending elementary school in Saxen, he went to secondary school in Linz , where he graduated from high school in 1961 . Subsequently he did his military service in the Austrian Armed Forces and then began studying at the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Vienna .

During his studies he came into contact with the KÖStV Kürnberg , founded in 1900 , a color-bearing and non-striking student union and member of the Austrian Cartel Association (ÖCV), of which he became a member on May 18, 1965 and was given the couleur name Sigi . In the winter semester 1966/67, as well as in the summer semester 1969, Panhofer acted as a chestnut major of the said student union. After completing his studies, Panhofer became active as a writer and journalist. At the time of his early death at the age of 56, he was an editor at Österreichischer Wirtschaftsverlag .

Panhofer died on February 13, 1998 at the age of 56. One year after his death, the self-published book (Panhofer Verlag) published the book Die Mär vom Henkersbeil , which was created in collaboration with his son Marcus and contained illustrations by Tilman Schwägerl.

In his honor, the Austrian business publisher, which publishes the Handelszeitung among other things , set up a prize for merited personalities in the retail sector - the Siegfried Panhofer Prize . One of the prizewinners was Philip Markl (1938–2011), who played a key role in shaping the fortunes of Spar Austria for around four decades .

From June 15, 1967 until his death he was married to the self-employed Christine (nee Fontani; * 1946). The three children Michael, Marcus and Gregor came from the marriage.
