Siegfried Priglinger

Siegfried Georg Priglinger (born April 11, 1970 in Leonding , Austria ) is an Austrian ophthalmologist and has been the medical director of the University Eye Clinic at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich since September 2015 . His specialty is ocular microsurgery , specializing in minimally invasive retinal, lens and corneal operations.

Life

Priglinger first studied biotechnology at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna . In 1991 he began studying medicine at the University of Vienna, which he completed in 1998 with a doctorate summa cum laude . This was followed by a research stay at the Schepens Eye Research Institute at Harvard Medical School in Boston , where Priglinger dealt with the immunobiology of retinal transplants. After completing his specialist training at the University of Munich's Eye Clinic, which he finished in 2005, he was appointed senior physician and in the following year 2006 he obtained his habilitation on the subject of "Wound Healing in Ophthalmology". In 2007 he became chief physician of the eye clinic at Linz General Hospital. In 2011 he was appointed adjunct professor at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and, in 2015, he was appointed professor of ophthalmology and head physician of the eye clinic at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich, succeeding his teacher Anselm Kampik .

Clinically and in research, his focus is on the surgical treatment of retinal and macular diseases (retinal detachment, macular holes, epiretinal gliosis), minimally invasive surgical treatment of cataracts and glaucoma, as well as corneal degeneration (DMEK, DALK), refractive corneal surgery ( SMILE, LASIK, PRK) as well as the intravitreal therapy of degenerative and hereditary maculopathies (macular edema with retinal vein occlusions, age-related macular degeneration, diabetic macular edema, myopic choroidal neovascularization).

He is a member of the American Acedemy of Ophthalmology , European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, European Society of Retina Specialists, Macula Society, Club Jules Gonin, German Ophthalmological Society , German Retinological Society, Austrian Ophthalmic Society.

Priglinger is married to the ophthalmologist Claudia Priglinger, with whom he has five children. The family lives in Munich.
