Sieghard von Aquileia ( Syrus , Sigehard von Peilstein ) († August 12, 1077 ) from the house of the Bavarian Sieghardinger was patriarch of Aquileia from 1068 to 1077 .

Sieghard was the son of Sieghard VII , Count in Chiemgau, and Bilihild von Andechs .

In 1072 the Michaelbeuern monastery was completed , which his mother Bilihild had been very busy with, and the church was consecrated by the patriarch and other spiritual dignitaries. In the same year Patriarch Sieghard gave his sister Friedgund, abbess of St. Maria in Aquileia, a few villages in Italy.

After Henry IV went to Canossa in January 1077, the king gave the patriarch the county of Friuli and the estate of Lunzanicha / Lucenigo (w. Gorizia ) and the entire fiefdom that Count Ludwig, a successor of Count Werigand , had previously owned, with all of them King and the Duke of Carinthia entitled to rights (document to Pavia from March / April 1077) and was able to win him over to his cause in the investiture dispute ; then Patriarch Sieghard made it possible for him to return quickly across the Alps to Bavaria; According to the documents from Nuremberg on June 11, 1077, Henry IV then awarded the patriarch "and his successors" the marks of Istria and Carniola .

With that Patriarch Sieghard became sovereign; however, he died suddenly a few months later with several of his knights.
