Siegmund Stemer

Siegmund Stemer (born March 5, 1951 in Bludenz ) is an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ). From 1997 to 2012 he was a member of the Vorarlberg regional government as a regional councilor , and from 1989 to 1997 a member of the Vorarlberg regional parliament .

Before joining the state government, Stemer worked as a teacher at secondary schools for the subjects geography and sport; after leaving politics, he worked as a consultant for the Austrian Ministry of Education. He is divorced with one child and currently resides in Vandans .

After completing compulsory school, Stemer attended the Bundesgymnasium and Bundesrealgymnasium Bludenz , where he graduated with the Matura . He then began to study geography and sports at the University of Innsbruck to become a teacher. With the completion of the two studies and the achievement of the master's degree, Stemer began to teach in public schools.

Political career

Stemer began his political career as a councilor in his home town of St. Anton im Montafon in 1980 and 1981. He then became mayor of the commune for the ÖVP from 1981 to 1997. Before that, he had been elected to the Vorarlberg state parliament in 1989. From 1990 to 1997 he held the office of chairman of the ÖVP parliamentary group in the state parliament. From 1985 to 1996, Stemer also represented the Montafon stand as a professional representative.

In 1997, Stemer was finally appointed to the Vorarlberg regional government as regional councilor for schools, sports and legislation. By virtue of his office as regional school council, he was also acting president of the regional school council for Vorarlberg during his term of office . On November 2, 2012, Siegmund Stemer offered governor Markus Wallner to resign as state councilor on November 6 due to a black money affair in the state's own Sportservice Vorarlberg GmbH , in which he was accused of intervening too late as a political supervisory body . Bernadette Mennel, President of the State Parliament, was his successor as Provincial Councilor .

After his retirement from active state politics, Siegmund Stemer was hired by the then Minister of Education Claudia Schmied as an advisor to the Ministry of Education for early education with a focus on sustainable language promotion, regular exercise and child-friendly transition. Stemer therefore worked out a corresponding concept on the basis of a work contract in parallel to retirement.
