The Sierakowski mansion in Sopot ( Dworek Sierakowskich w Sopocie ) is one of the oldest buildings in the Polish Sopot , Pomorskie . The “Herrenhäuschen”, as the literal translation, is used today for cultural purposes.

history

The building is now in the center of the seaside resort . At the beginning of the 18th century there was a summer house that belonged to the French court . The owner was the mayor of Gdańsk Andreas Borgmann. In 1734 the property was destroyed in the War of the Polish Succession .

The rebuilt building was converted into a summer residence in 1795 by Kajetan Onufry Sierakowski (1753–1841). He gave it the appearance of a Polish country estate in the classicism style. The one-hectare park was also redesigned. The count was, among other things, Starost von Dobrzyń , Privy Council and a member of the four-year Sejm . He wrote a pamphlet on the constitution of Constitution of May 3, 1791. As early as 1793, the client was awarded the Order of the White Eagle and the Order of St. Stanislaus . In 1814 it was sold to the wealthy Frantzius family from Gdańsk, who owned it until 1904.

In the 20th century, the property experienced several changes of ownership. The associated park was divided into several building plots. The architect of the casino hotel was also one of the tenants . The last owners before the Second World War were the Kries family .

In 1945 the house came into the possession of the city of Sopot and was converted into a tenement house for three families. Although a lot was destroyed as a result, a lot could also be preserved. These include double doors, stucco, ceiling paintings, metal fittings and two tiled stoves from around 1800.

The remaining ensemble was placed under monument protection in 1962 . The building was completely renovated in 2010 and restored to its original color scheme.

use

The house has been owned by the Society of Friends of Sopots since 1974. Concerts are held there every Thursday. It is also used for exhibitions, as a theater, for literary events and meetings of the KURORT film club. A café dedicated to the young Byron is open daily in the side wing from noon to 11pm.
