Kries is the name of an originally from Thuringia originating family , whose parent series with Jobst Kries begins, the 1595 from Hebersdorf to Lehesten came.

The elevation to the Prussian nobility took place on September 9, 1840 in Königsberg ( East Prussia ) for the royal Prussian councilor Nathanael Kries , landlord on Kulmaga and tenant of the Osterwitt domain (both district of Marienwerder , West Prussia ). A diploma was only issued to his son Friedrich Wilhelm Kries on February 1, 1858 .
