Nathanael Kries

Nathanael Gottlob von Kries (born May 3, 1772 in Thorn , † February 24, 1852 in Kriesfelde ) was a German landowner , member of parliament and ancestor of the Kries family .

Nathanael Kries was the son of the high school professor Johann Albinus Kries (1716–1785). In 1800 he married Josephine Matthias. The marriage resulted in 13 children, 8 boys and 5 girls.

Life

Kries attended the Thorner Gymnasium until the early death of his father. The upbringing was now taken over by the 9 years older sister Elisabeth Sophie. With her husband Johann Gottlieb Plehn, a bailiff at the Royal Domain Office in Mewe, he trained in economics, business and cash management.

From 1800 to 1848 he was the tenant of the Osterwitt domain. Despite the turmoil of the Napoleonic Wars, he was so successful economically that he was able to acquire other goods:

  • 1820 Kulmaga for 6,150 thalers
  • 1828 Kriesfelde for 6,760 thalers
  • 1829 Czerwinsk for 5,000 thalers
  • 1830 big and small Waczmirs for 41,000 thalers
  • 1841 Friedenau for 62,000 thalers

1798/99 he was office administrator of the Office Gniew, 1800, he was Royal there bailiff . From 1819 to 1827 he was a royal councilor. Since 1820 he was a member of the district councils of the Marienwerder district. In 1840 he was a member of the provincial parliament of the province of Prussia . In this capacity he took part in the homage state parliament of the new King Friedrich Wilhelm IV in Königsberg i. Pr. Part. On the occasion of this state parliament, he was raised to hereditary nobility on September 10, 1840.
