history
The first written record about the place dates from December 17, 1413. Until 1918 it was together with the Schwarzburg part of Weitisberga an exclave of the Leutenberg area of the Schwarzburg-Rudolstädter suzerainty .
The name Heberndorf is said to be derived from oats, because oats thrived best under the local climatic conditions. Agriculture and cattle breeding were carried out with priority on green fodder cultivation. Slater was a local main occupation. Even then, many men and families moved west to find work. An industrial park has recently been set up nearby.
