Gerda von Kries

Gerda von Kries (also: Gerda von Kries-Roggenhausen , official name since the marriage: Gerda Preuß , born August 30, 1901 in Freiburg im Breisgau ; † February 29, 1972 ibid) was a German writer .

Life

Gerda von Kries was the daughter of the physiologist Johannes von Kries . She attended a secondary school , where she passed her matriculation examination in 1920 . Then studied them Protestant Theology and next completed training in infant care at a Protestant school for women. She worked as a parish assistant in Frankfurt am Main . She later went to East Africa to serve in the mission . After contracting a tropical disease, she was forced to return to Germany ; there she worked as a member of the Inner Mission . In addition, she published literary works. In 1944 she married the widower of a deceased cousin and looked after both of his children. The family settled in West Prussia down, however, had already in 1944 before the advancing Red Army to escape to the West compete. After various intermediate stops, Gerda von Kries and her husband ran a farm in Deiderode near Göttingen after the end of the war . After the death of her husband in 1950, Gerda von Kries returned to Freiburg with her stepchildren , where most of her literary work was written in the 1950s and 1960s .

Gerda von Kries was the author of children's books as well as novels and short stories for adults. She was best known through the novel Weichselwinde (later editions under the title Die Kronacker ), in which she describes the story of a West Prussian family.
