Johannes von Kries
Johannes Adolf von Kries (born October 6, 1853 in Roggenhausen , West Prussia , † December 30, 1928 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a German physiologist .
biography
Von Kries studied medicine in Halle , Leipzig and Zurich . He received his doctorate in Leipzig in 1876 and completed his habilitation in physiology in 1878 . He was appointed associate professor in Freiburg in 1880 and full professor of physiology in 1883. Also in 1883 he became director of the Physiological Institute. He retired in 1924.
He was with Hermann Ebbinghaus co-founder of the Journal of Psychology , worked under Hermann von Helmholtz and united the three-color theory with the opponent process of Ewald Hering to Kries zone theory , which comprises the phenomena of color vision describes in humans. In 1888 he founded the theory of causality on adequacy .
Kries was awarded the order Pour le mérite for science and the arts . In 1882 Kries was appointed a member of the Leopoldina . In 1909 he became an extraordinary member of the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences . Since 1917 he was a member of the Göttingen Academy of Sciences and since 1923 a corresponding member of the Prussian Academy of Sciences .
He was also an honorary citizen of the Technical University of Karlsruhe .
