The Sierra de Aracena y Picos de Aroche Natural Park is located in the western part of the Sierra Morena , in the north of the province of Huelva ( Spanish autonomous region of Andalusia ).

Gently rounded and mostly between 400 and 900 m high (its highest point is the Castaño at 962 m), it is an ideal and as yet hardly discovered hiking area. The poor and very shallow soils are hardly suitable for agriculture, so that extensive forests have been preserved here. Chestnut groves as well as cork and holm oak forests determine the landscape.

Half -wild black pigs ( Spanish cerdos negros ) live in the oak forests and are fattened with acorns. The ham and sausages from these animals are the main products of this region - every Spaniard is familiar with the ham from Jabugo .

In addition, the inhabitants of this area live from the sale of cork , fruit (apples, pears, apricots) and, to a lesser extent, chestnuts. The gardens that are scattered over and over again in these forests serve primarily for self-sufficiency.
