Sigifredo Mercado (born December 21, 1968 in Toluca ) is a former Mexican soccer player who mainly played in midfield .

Life

Mercado began his professional career in the 1987/88 season at Club Ángeles de Puebla , who played in the Mexican Primera División at the time. After a year he moved to the more important city rivals Puebla FC , where he was under contract for the next five years and with whom he won the double in 1990 .

Mercado later played for Deportivo Toluca , Club León and Atlas Guadalajara , returned twice to Puebla FC and ended his active career in the 2005/06 season at CD Zacatepec .

National team

Mercado made his debut in the dress of the Mexican national team on February 7, 1998 in a 2-0 win over Honduras. His last international match took place on June 17, 2002, when Mexico lost to the USA (0-2) in the second round of the 2002 World Cup and were eliminated.
