Signar á Brúnni (born as Signar Hansen ; born February 10, 1945 in Fuglafjørður ) is a former Faroese teacher and politician of the left-wing Republican Tjóðveldi . He was a member of parliament in Løgting , minister and prime minister in several Faroese state governments . Until the mid-1990s, his name was Signar Hansen. After changing the legal situation regarding Faroese names, he changed it and has been called Signar á Brúnni since then.

Signar á Brúnni finished his training at the Faroese teacher training college ( Føroya Læraraskúli ) in 1969 and then worked as a teacher from 1969 to 1973 in Strendur and from 1973 in his hometown of Fuglafjørður. Later he also worked at schools in Leirvík and Eiði and was headmaster in Vestmanna and Klaksvík . During the time as minister he was on leave.

politics

Signar á Brúnni was elected for the first time in 1970 as a member of the Tjóðveldisflokkurin in the Faroese parliament (Løgting) and sat there continuously until 1980. In 1984 he was able to return to parliament and remained there until 2002, only interrupted by his ministerial periods in the state government. From 1986 to 1989 he was chairman of Løgting.

Signar á Brúnni also served as minister for a period of 13 years with interruptions in several state governments. Under the name Signar Hansen, he was Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Energy, Education and the Environment in the Jógvan Sundstein I state government from January to June 1989 . From June 1989 to January 1991 he was Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Education, Culture and Environment in the State Government Jógvan Sundstein II and in the State Government Marita Petersen from 1993 to 1994 Minister for Environment, Energy and Local Affairs. As Signar á Brúnni he was finally from 1998 to 2002 in the state government of Anfinn Kallsberg I Minister for Education and Culture.

Signar á Brúnni's parents are Sigga (nee Poulsen) and Jógvan Hansen from Fuglafjørður . He grew up with Kristianna and Hans David Hansen in Fuglafjørður. Signar is married to Gunnvør (née Skipanes) from Skipanes .
