Signature Records was an American independent jazz - label , which in 1942 by Bob Thiele was founded. The label existed until 1949.

Signature Records is considered a major record label that made recordings in the first half of the 1940s by artists such as Anita O'Day , Coleman Hawkins , Eddie Lawrence , Ray Anthony , Bud Jacobson , Barbara McNair , Johnny Bothwell , Monica Lewis , Dickie Thompson and Bill Stegmeyer , later published by Ray Bryant , Tony Scott and Jimmy Rowles in the 1950s . The later impulse! -Producer Bob Thiele produced for SignatureSuccessful titles in the 1940s such as " I Got Rhythm ", "I'm Fer It Too" and " Linger Awhile " by Lester Young and " Get Happy ", " Crazy Rhythm " and " The Man I Love " by Coleman Hawkins. The label's recordings have been re-released as records on Bob Thiele Music and Dr Jazz . Parts of the catalog later appeared in CD form on Fresh Sound Records .

In 2007 a pop label was founded by Max Martin under the name "Signature Records" .
