The GDR footballer of the year was awarded the silver football boot 1977 for the 15th time . The editors of the magazine Die neue Fußballwoche had carried out a survey to choose the best player of the 1976/77 season , which included the six best footballers with points (ten points for the favorite, seven, five, three, two in descending order for the other places and one point). The highest total number of points was achieved by Hans-Jürgen Dörner , who was presented with the silver football boot as Footballer of the Year on August 13, 1977 before the season opened in the Dynamo Stadium in Dresden .
