Silke Leffler (* 1970 in Vorarlberg , Austria ) is a German designer and illustrator .

Life

Silke Leffler grew up in various European countries, including Austria, Holland and Southern Germany, as well as in various African countries; During her high school time at the modern language branch of the St. Gotthard High School , she lived in Hengersberg, Lower Bavaria . After graduating from high school in 1989, she trained as a tailor and then studied textile design . She lives and works in the countryside near Rottweil . The artist is married and has three children.

She worked for a design studio in England and finally started her own business in 1996 as a freelance textile designer, whereby she can also count orders from large companies among her references. Her orders include a. Bed linen and textiles of all kinds and carpets. Since 1998, orders from large publishers have been added, and since then she has illustrated books (especially children's books ), calendars, postcards and various other printed matter.

Very typical of her style and at the same time her trademark are the very imaginative illustrations , which are kept in the form of collages with many loving details , whereby the relationships between the objects often vary greatly and at the same time intentionally. She mixes gluing and painting techniques . Her materials are often of various kinds: At flea markets she buys old music and notebooks, as well as letters and old maps, wallpaper, postage stamps and wrapping paper. These are often cut into the necessary shapes and combined with one another. In this way she tells the viewer her very own interpretation of a fairy tale and creates imaginative images. Silke Leffler gets the inspiration for her work from the nature of her home environment as well as from conversations and observations with children. Meanwhile, Silke Leffler has achieved international recognition. She has received prizes and awards for some of her book illustrations.

Her previous publications include countless books, v. a. Children's books (the latest example: "Emma im Knopfland" by Ulrike Rylance , published in February 2011), as well as photo albums, notebooks, gift books, but also postcards, decorative items.

She designated the cuddly toy wolf Lufsig at IKEA , which became a protest sign in Hong Kong in December 2013.
