The Amur catfish ( Silurus asotus ) is a freshwater fish from the genus Silurus of the family of the real catfish . It originally comes from East Asia and was released in Swiss rivers , among other places . It is an important food fish in Asia.

Adult Amur catfish reach a length of 30 to 50 centimeters, their body is elongated and cylindrical and they have two pairs of barbels , juveniles have another pair, which drop off when they reach a size of 6 to 7 centimeters. The back is dark brown to greenish yellow-brown, the belly yellow to white. The dorsal fin is small, the anal fin merges into the caudal fin.

Amur catfish feed on small fish, crustaceans, and insects.
distribution
The Amur catfish is native to Japan, where it is also cultivated as an edible fish, the Korean Peninsula, Mongolia, Taiwan, China and Russia.
