Simcha Dinitz (born June 23, 1929 in Tel Aviv , † September 23, 2003 in Jerusalem ) was an Israeli politician and diplomat.

Dinitz was a member of the Hagana and, after it was absorbed into the Israeli armed forces , also served there. He then studied political science at the University of Cincinnati in Ohio . He finally received his Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) and Master of Science (M.Sc.) from the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University in Washington, DC .

After finishing his studies, Dinitz worked in the Israeli Foreign Ministry. In his 30-year career he held various offices, including from 1966 to 1968 he was envoy to the embassy in Rome and from 1968 to 1969 at the embassy in Washington. From 1969 to 1973 Dinitz was Director General in the Office of Prime Minister and Political Advisor to Prime Minister Golda Meir . He then became Israeli ambassador to the United States from 1973 to 1979 . Dinitz played an important role in coordinating US arms deliveries to Israel during the 1973 Yom Kippur War . He was a member of the Israeli delegation to the peace talks with Egypt at Camp David.

From 1979 to 1984 Dinitz held the office of Vice President of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem . From 1984 to 1988 he was a member of the 11th Knesset legislature for Avoda .

From 1987 to 1994 he was chairman of the board of the World Zionist Organization and the Jewish Agency . His term of office included the wave of immigration from the former Soviet Union and Operation Salomon .
