Simeon Pironkov

Simeon Angelow Pironkow ( Bulgarian Симеон Ангелов Пиронков ; born June 18, 1927 in Lom , Bulgaria , † January 25, 2000 in Sofia ) was a Bulgarian composer .

Life

Simeon Angelow Pironkow completed his music studies in 1952, composing with Parashkev Hadschiew and conducting with Dimotrov at the National Music Academy . During his studies he worked as the musical director of the orchestra of the National Youth Theater. As a music editor he worked from 1964 to 1968 at the film studio "Boyana". From 1968 to 1980 he worked as a freelance composer and musician. From 1982 Pironkow taught again at his old music academy and occasionally worked as a guest lecturer in Paris and Los Angeles. In addition to several memberships in music societies and foundations, he was chairman and director of the annual international music festival Musica Nova Sofia from 1994 until his death .

Pirinkow is one of the most important Bulgarian musicians of his time. He wrote various musical works and was employed in the theater, film and classical music. In addition to 43 film scores, he also wrote oratorios, symphonies, three operas and 51 theater pieces. His compositions have been performed in the USA, Russia, Japan and almost everywhere in Europe, including Germany. 1985 was awarded the Herder Prize for his life's work.
