Simeon Toribio ( Simeon Galvez Toribio ; born September 3, 1905 in Bohol , † June 5, 1969 ) was a Filipino athlete . He won the bronze medal in the high jump at the 1932 Olympic Games in Los Angeles .

Athletic career

Toribio first appeared at the Olympic Games in Amsterdam in 1928. The American Bob King won with 1.94 m, followed by four jumpers with 1.91 m, Toribio was fourth after jump-off. In 1932 in Los Angeles four athletes jumped 1.97 m, the jump-off won the Canadian Duncan McNaughton , Toribio took third place. Toribio also took part in the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin four years later . With a jump of 1.85 m, he placed 12th along with other jumpers.

Toribio won the high jump competition at the Far East Championships five times .

Life

After his sporting career, Toribio became a lawyer. From 1941 to 1953 he represented the second district of his home island Bohol in the Philippine House of Representatives . The Cong. Simeon G. Toribio Memorial Hospital in Carmen commemorates Toribio.
