Attractions
Carmen is best known for the Chocolate Hills . These conical limestone hills, the height of which varies between 40 and 120 meters, were created a few million years ago in a region that was then in a shallow water area. Corals and other sea creatures deposited their remains in areas caused by currents and growth. After the sea level fell, various uplifts and subsidence of the ground, caused by subduction and secondary volcanic events , the material came to the surface. The erosion began its game and in this way created the impressive hilly landscape.
The Chocolate Hill Complex is located in Barangay Buenos Aires . This visitor center is located on one of the Chocolate Hills and is accessible via a road that winds around the hill half way up. There is a restaurant, a conference room, a hostel with swimming pool and various souvenir shops. A staircase of more than 200 steps leads up to the top of the hill, from where there is a 360 degree view of the surrounding Chocolate Hills.
