History and demographics
The name of the community is believed to be derived from the native pine tree Agoho in the Philippines . This is called maribuhok or malabohok in the local dialect . In the first records of the early Jesuit historian Fr. Francisco Colin, the city first appears as Malabooch and later as Malabohoc . It is not known when the change finally took place in Maribojoc . In the time before the Spanish colonization, the place was called Dungguan , which means something like anchorage .
In 1767, Maribojoc was made a parish, and on October 15, 1860, it became a parish. As early as 1879, Maribojoc was a flourishing municipality with 18,200 inhabitants. This population has only been reached again in the recent past and has now been exceeded.

Attractions
In the west of the municipality of Maribojoc, in Barangay Punta Cruz, is the Fuerza Punta Cruz . This fortress, built by the Spaniards in 1796, served as a vantage point to spot approaching plundering pirates earlier and to be able to defend themselves accordingly. Today the observation tower, which is located directly on the coastline, is a popular destination for tourists.
