Spanish forts are quite common in the Philippines , they are usually in a poor state of preservation. The fortresses Fuerza de Capul, the watchtower in Dauis, the Fuerza Punta Cruz, the Fuerza de San Andres and the Fuerza de Sta are in good condition, partly reconstructed. Isabel. These five fortifications are since 2006 on the proposed list of the Philippines for inclusion on the World Heritage List of UNESCO .
Fuerza de Capul
The Fuerza de Capul is located in the municipality of Capul , on the island of the same name Capul in the Samar Sea , Northern Samar Province . It is a fortified church that was built in the 18th century by the Jesuit order . The plan of the building is rectangular, with a bastion on each corner wall.
Dauis watchtower
The Dauis Watchtower is located in the Dauis Municipality on Panglao Island , Bohol Province . It was built in 1774 by the Order of the Augustinian Recollects and was used to monitor shipping traffic on the waterway between the island of Panglao and the municipality of Tagbilaran , on the main island of Bohol. The tower has a hexagonal floor plan and is divided into three levels. The year of construction and the coat of arms of the order were incorporated above the entrance to the tower.
Fuerza Punta Cruz
The Punta Cruz Fortress stands on the coast in the municipality of Maribojoc , Bohol Province. It was built in 1796 by the order of the Augustinian recollects. The fortress has a triangular floor plan with a hexagonal first floor. Coral stone was used as a building material. The coat of arms of the Kingdom of Spain and the year of its establishment are emblazoned above the entrance.
Fuerza de San Andres
The Fuerza de San Andres is in the area of the municipality of Romblon , Province of Romblon . It was built on a hill above the village at the beginning of the 17th century by the order of the Augustinian recollects. The fortress has a square plan with a round tower on each corner.
Fuerza de Sta. Isabel
The Fuerza de Sta. Isabel is in Taytay Township , Palawan Province . It was built in 1738 by the order of the Augustinian recollects on the coast of the Sulu Sea. The fortress has a square plan with a bastion on each corner of the structure. The bastions were dedicated to the saints of the Roman Catholic Church of San Toribio, San Miguel, San Juan and Sta. Dedicated to Isabel. There is a chapel in the fortress .
