The Bielstein tunnel in the Harz is a 465.7 m long, single-tube, closed and filled-in railway tunnel of the Rübelandbahn (formerly Harzbahn ; originally ore-level railway ) near Hüttenrode in the Harz district , Saxony-Anhalt .

Geographical location

The disused Bielstein tunnel is located in the Lower Harz in the Harz / Saxony-Anhalt nature park . It is located about 2 km north-northeast of Hüttenrode , a south-western district of Blankenburg , and about 1 km west-south-west of the Bielstein summit (approx.  405  m above sea  level ) on the Rübelandbahn between the hairpin at Michaelstein station and the former Braunesumpf station on average 420  m height. Bundesstraße 27 runs a little southeast of the former tunnel .

History and description

The Bielstein Tunnel was built as part of the ore- step railway with a length of 465.7 m, which was laid out from 1872 to 1875 . When the Harz Railway was built from 1885, the tunnel profile was expanded and the Braunesumpf station was built. Because the tunnel profile had to be increased during the electrification of the Rübelandbahn (1960 to 1965) for the construction of an overhead line and the tunnel was in a poor state of construction, it was abandoned and later filled in. Southeast of the old tunnel, a realignment of the railroad track in a parallel to the current B 27 extending terrain nick created.

Otto Ebert Bridge and Bielstein Cliff

About 100 meters east of the Northeast portal Bielenstein tunnel is the Otto-Ebert-bridge ( 402  m  51 ° 47 '6.1 "  N , 10 ° 55' 24.3"  O ), which as a footbridge on forest road Herzogsweg on the Rübelandbahn leads and is included as No. 79 in the system of stamping points of the Harz hiking pin.

The Bielsteinklippe (approx.  385  m ) is located about 300 m southeast of the Otto-Ebert-Brücke and about 500 m southwest of the summit of the Bielstein .
