Attractions
One of the sights of Dauis is the Señora de la Asunción Church . Construction of the church began in 1863 and was initially completed in 1879. In 1884, however, part of the church collapsed. In the course of the repair work began on the construction of a second tower, which has remained unfinished to this day. There are artistic ceiling paintings inside the church. A special feature is the spring in the church in front of the altar. Despite its proximity to the sea, the water from this spring is not salty and therefore drinkable. He is said to have healing powers and, if they wish, believers can fill their water bottles and vessels with water free of charge from the spring.
Another tourist attraction in Dauis is the Hinagdanan grotto with its underground lake, located near the north coast in Barangay Bingag. Countless bats live in the grotto . It got its name from Cebuano for Hagdan = leader. The name means that "a man descends on a ladder", which is supposed to commemorate the discovery. The grotto has only a narrow entrance, so even today it can only be reached by visitors via a ladder, which is, however, permanently mounted and allows a reasonably comfortable access.
The Spanish watchtower in Dauis was completed in 1774. It was used to control ship traffic and to give early warning to the Spanish guards in Tagbilaran when the Moro pirates on forays approached the island in the 18th century.
