Similiparma is a poor species of damselfish (Pomacentridae), which occurs in the eastern Atlantic in rocky reefs on the coasts of the Macaronesian Islands (Azores, Madeira, Ilhas Selvagens, Canaries, Cape Verde) and Senegal . The scientific name of the genus is made up of the Latin "similis" (how, resembles) and the name of the Pacific damselfishgenus Parma and was given because of the similarity of the two genera. The two species of the genus were originally assigned to the genera Abudefduf and Glyphidodon (now a synonym of Abudefduf ).

features

Similiparma species are 15 to 16 cm long, with the body length reaching 1.8 to 1.9 times the body height. Diagnostic features of the genus are the 13 spiked rays in the dorsal fin, 30 to 32 scales in a central longitudinal row on the sides of the body, a side line with 22 to 24 scales, 2 to 3 scales between the side line and the base of the last spine of the dorsal fin, a scale-free one Area behind the head, 16 to 18 gill rakes (4–6 + 12–13) and a smooth margin of the preoperculum .
