The company was founded in 1846 as a small foundry studio in Lausanne by Henri Jean Charles Kugler. He made brass products, oil and petroleum lamps. In 1854 he officially founded the Kugler company.

At the third Swiss industrial exhibition in Bern in 1857, the Kugler company presented vases, table lamps, lamps and candlesticks made of brass and were awarded the bronze medal for this. A silver medal followed in 1883 at the first Swiss national exhibition in Zurich , and two gold medals in 1896 at the second Swiss national exhibition in Geneva . In 1863 the company moved from Lausanne to Geneva, where the Kugler company was the first Swiss company to start manufacturing water and gas fittings.

development

Because the space requirements for the steadily growing company grew, the company moved to the Coulouvrenière district in Geneva in 1870, where additional production halls were built. In 1890, Jean Kugler, the son of Charles Kugler, officially took over management of the company. The change in management took place at a time when the introduction of domestic water supply in large parts of Switzerland triggered high demand for fittings. Although the Kugler company had already expanded its production workshops in Coulouvrenière several times, the space available was becoming increasingly scarce. For this reason, the son of Jean Kugler, who is now also active in the business, named Charles Kugler, acquired the factory premises of Gardy SA in Jonction, Geneva. There he set up a fittings factory and metal foundry in 1930.

In the 20th century, in addition to the Kugler companies, the Similor company and other Swiss valve manufacturers emerged. In 1955, the Wallisellen AG (arwa AG) fittings factory and Sanimatic AG in Geroldswil in 1990 began manufacturing fittings. In 1996 Similor SA acquired Kugler Robinetterie SA and from then on signed as Similor Kugler SA. In the following year, Sanimatic AG and in 2003 arwa AG were taken over. In 2007 Similor Kugler SA joined the Spanish family company Roca, to which Laufen was already part. In 2009 the three companies Similor Kugler SA, arwa AG and Sanimatic AG merged to form Similor AG, which has been operating at the Laufen site since January 4, 2010 . With the construction of the "Laufen Forum" showroom, the relocation of the Similor production facilities to Laufen and the conversion of the old exhibition into a training center, a bathroom competence center was created in Laufen.

Similor AG today

Today's Similor AG, based in Laufen / BL, is one of the leading Swiss valve manufacturers and employs around 200 people. Quality fittings from the brands arwa, Similor Kugler, Sanimatic and Laufen are manufactured in the production hall for the national and international market.

Innovations

The Kuglostat, developed in 1947, was the first mixer to be produced and sold in Switzerland. The plastic handles of the Silor series, which are still available today, were an absolute novelty in the industry in 1954, just like the handles of the Sahara series, which were often copied after their introduction in 1974. In 1997 and 2003, Similor launched the first water and energy-saving fittings with the Ecototal and Ecototal + control cartridges.
