Simon Compaoré (born September 19, 1952 in Ouagadougou ) is a politician from Burkina Faso ( Upper Volta until 1984 ). From 1995 to 2013 he was Mayor of Ouagadougou. On April 17, 2013, he was appointed Honorary Mayor of Ouagadougou.

Life

Simon Compaoré was born in 1952 to a pastor. After attending primary and secondary schools in Koudougou and Ouagadougou, he studied business administration at the Faculty of Economics in Dijon ( France ), where he completed his studies with a licentiate and a diploma (Diplôme d'études supérieures spécialisées).

After returning to Upper Volta, he first worked in administration, before holding various higher offices in public administration from 1984. In 1987 he started his political career as Deputy Secretary for Economic and Financial Affairs of the Executive Committee of the Popular Front (Front populaire).

In March 1995 he was elected Mayor of Ouagadougou City. He was confirmed in this office in the 2000 and 2006 elections.

In addition to his further office as a member of the National Assembly , he was also deputy general secretary of the ruling party Congrès pour la démocratie et le progrès (CDP) for several years .
