The former manor of the courtyard

The Solmssche Hof is a former farm yard in the center of the Karben district of Petterweil . The large, four-sided courtyard was built in Carolingian times west of St. Martin's Church.

Originally the farm was owned by the Fulda Monastery . In 1352 he was sold to the Arnsburg monastery . After the economic decline of the monastery that began in the middle of the 15th century, the farm was pledged in 1487 and came into the possession of the Teutonic Order , which had been resident in neighboring Kloppenheim since 1269. Probably before the beginning of the Peasants' War in 1525, the farm became the seat of the Counts of Solms , who exercised sovereign rights in Petterweil from the early modern period until 1816.

The property consists of a group of several buildings arranged around a trapezoidal courtyard. A gap on the north side opens up the courtyard to the street. The former manor house facing the street, which was rebuilt in the 18th century, is significant in terms of art history. A massive ground floor serves as a base for the wide, three-storey hipped roof building. On top of this is the all-round half- timbered upper floor. The barn on the south side of the courtyard has a lasting impact on the townscape with its half-timbered wall facing the street. The former farm building was demolished in 1992 to build condominiums.
