Koudougou is a city and a department encompassing the same area in the West African state of Burkina Faso , capital of the Center-Ouest region and the province of Boulkiemdé , 75 km west of Ouagadougou , the country's capital. It is mostly inhabited by Mossi and with 131,825 inhabitants in the ten sectors of the capital and the 15 surrounding villages one of the largest cities in the country.
Economy, transport and infrastructure
Koudougou is located on the Abidjan-Niger Railway , the only railway line in Burkina Faso, and is home to a number of small industrial plants, such as a factory for the production of shea butter , a cotton factory and several textile factories . The city has had a university since 2005.
The market in Koudougou is of supraregional importance and has been housed in a new market complex in the city center since 2005. The store designed by Laurent Séchaud on behalf of the SDC was awarded the Aga Khan Award for Architecture in 2007 .
The music festival Nuits atypiques de Koudougou takes place once a year .
